Non-Surgical Facelift

What is a Non Surgical Facelift?

Changes of aging and sun-related damage may be improved by using a combination of techniques which allows improvement in the appearance of the face without any real downtime, no anesthesia and no scars. Depending upon a person’s age, sun exposure and genetic changes, several treatments are combined to give an overall improvement in the appearance of the face. These treatments (non surgical facelift) include one or more of the following treatments:

• Ablative lasers like the fractional CO2 laser, erbium laser, etc.
• Non-ablative lasers like long-pulse Nd:Yag lasers, Vascular lasers, Pigment lasers, IPL, etc.
• High-intensity focused ultrasound treatments like Ulthera, HIFU, etc.
• Radiofreqency devices which give skin tightening without downtime (like Thermage, Accent, etc)
• Subdermal needle radiofrequency devices like Infini, Profound, etc
• Subdermal tightening with devices like FaceTite, subdermal Plasma, etc.
• The more sophisticated threads like the Silhouette Instalift, Nova threads, etc
• PRP treatment
• Fillers and Botox
• Chemical Peels

Who chooses a Non-Surgical Facelift?

Some patients desire an improvement in some or all of the parts of the face without surgery. This may be because of general health, anesthesia contraindication or personal preference. At other times, patients may wish to see an improvement whilst they plan for a surgical procedure.

How Does a Non-Surgical Facelift work?

Aging (and sun damage) affects skin, subcutaneous tissues, fat, muscles, tendons, and bone. We review patients’ younger photographs, assess the skin type, analyse the changes and suggest the best treatments that would give the patient the best result with the least invasion. Many of the treatments are designed to improve the subdermal laxity and induce new collagen production. The surface treatments help with the color, texture (lines, pores), and smoothness of the skin.

What can be Treated With a Non-Surgical Facelift?

To varying degrees, all of the following may be improved with techniques used in non-surgical facelifts:

  • Skin color (pigmentary changes, melasma, acne rosacea, poikiloderma of Cervatte, telangiectasias, etc).
  • Skin texture: pores, fine lines, wrinkles.
  • Restore fullness to the face (youthful faces)
  • Under-eye dark circles
  • Skin laxity
  • Jowls and jawline.
  • Midface volume loss
  • Forehead frownlines, forehead lines, “elevenses” and brow height
  • Recreating lip fullness, accentuating the vermilion border and improving the downward lateral lip corners
  • Improving lower lid hollows

Are the Non Surgical Facelift Procedures Painful?

We use a number of techniques to make the procedures and treatments as painless as possible: the use of topical anesthetics, cooling devices, vibration techniques, etc. Mild discomfort is felt during some of the treatments. When addressing lips, we often use local anesthetic blocks to make the procedure very comfortable and effective.

When does one see Results?

With certain treatments (like fillers, botox, etc), improvements are seen immediately or within a few days. Similarly with certain lasers, skin improvement is seen within a few days. Other techniques that build collagen (radiofrequency devices, High-intensity focused ultrasound, subdermal radiofrequency or Plasma), results are seen definitively and progressively over days to weeks to months. Some treatments are repeated over time to achieve a cumulative improvement

How Long Do the Non Surgical Facelift Results Last?

Aging is built into our systems genetically and is also exacerbated by diet, solar damage, smoking, body weight (gain and loss), exercise (or lack of), hydration and other factors. Whilst the external factors can be controlled or improved, the inherent aging process continues. However, because of production of new collagen and tissue tightening, together with partial weakening of overly tight muscles, results last for many months to years. Some of the modern treatmetns allow production of new collagen which gives more long-term results.

Do you use combination treatments to achieve results?

When muscle relaxation with toxins is combines with tissue filling, collagen production and subdermal and skin tightening, the results are additive and give more of an improvement than if individual treatments were done separately. Not everyone needs all the non-invasive treatments. We concentrate on the changes that need the most help and give the best results. So some patients would do well just with an ablative laser like a fractionated CO2 laser, whilst others would do better with a series of skin-tightening treatments together with tissue augmentation (lips, cheeks, hollows under eyelids).

I have a wedding and a family get-together coming up. Can I have the treatments and look good for the occasions?

This is one of the commonest requests we get for performing non-surgical improvement of the face. Treatments may be administered as little as a week before the event, but if advanced planning is possible, we can give much more dramatic results. We frequently have patients return from such events with comments from their friends and families such as “wow, you don’t look any older”, or “your skin is so beautiful!”, or “how do you manage to look so wonderful?” Many such comments are shared independently by our patients on various review sites (Google, YELP, Real Self, etc).

Will I bruise?

The face is a very vascular part of the body. Most lasers and devices we use will not give you bruising. When injections are involved, we make every effort to reduce your bruising. We have polarized light devices which allow us to see vessels under the skin, we use coolers (direct and cold-air), etc, to reduce the risk of bruising. You may use Arnica Montana (topical or oral) if you wish: most patients take it on the day of the treatment and for three to five days thereafter.

I don’t want to look like I have had fillers?

Unlike many clinics, we take a very conservative approach to the use of fillers. We keep the costs very affordable and only use enough to give you a result you can immediately appreciate. We never leave our patients “over-filled”. As we perform many facelifts, necklifts, browlifts, blepharoplasties, Hammock Lifts, etc, we are acutely aware of the anatomy and physiological changes that affect the face and use this knowledge to give you the best results. Dr. Patel operates upon and treats white Caucasians, Asians, Indians, Arabs, Iranians, and Africans and is therefore able to use his knowledge of the aging in different races to give them the best results.

I had a facelift and necklift some years ago and would like to improve my appearance but without further surgery. Is this possible?

Even when we perform facelifts and necklifts on our own patients, we maintain the results with judicious use of botox and fillers. Many of our patients who come for improvement using a combination of these materials have previously had facelifts, necklifts, browlifts and other procedures. It is now possible to keep the results of these surgeries looking good for a prolonged period without further surgery. As the body continues to age and we acquire further sun-related damage to the skin, appropriate maintenance of the skin and deeper tissues is wise and productive.

Can I choose the best combination of treatments that may work on my face?

We will show you the analysis and guide you as to which parts will show how much of an improvement. We always give our patients time to decide what would work best for them. Most of our patients will maintain results over time with appropriate treatments. We have many before-and-after photographs of our patients which we can show you when we consult you. We firmly believe that if you allow us to treat you, we will always give you a result you can (and others can) see!
